become a lifeguard - training and course info

 

Requirements
You need to be at least 14 years old at time of examination.
You must be a paid up member of Surf Lifesaving New Zealand (through a Surf Lifesaving Club like Orewa).

Fees
Club membership $85 for the 2016/2017 season
Exam & Manuals $35 (one off)

If you want to compete in surf sports as a surf club member there is an additional $120 competition fee (payable after qualifying).

Swimming
You will eventually need to swim 400m freestyle (in a pool) non-stop in under 9 minutes as part of your lifeguard quaification.

If you are there already – great - keep up the good work!
If you are not there yet, we would recommend that you seek lessons from your local pool until you can at least do 400m non-stop.

Usually at Orewa Surf Club. For next training dates contact club.
